EU WELCOMES SINKANE AND GENTLEMAN AUCTION HOUSE TO THE FAMILY
Ahmed Gallab is the brainchild behind Sinkane. Born from the ashes of his work in various bands in Columbus, OH, Gallab provides a mix and meld of pop and jazz influences that create a melodic drone over an uneasy landscape stacked with reversing guitars, wall of sound keys, mounting percussion, sliding horns and distant intermittent vocals in four movements. For his live set he arranges and composes for three to eleven pieces. Sinkane will be hitting the road shortly after their release "color voice" hits stores in April 2008.

With a seven-member attack on the pop formula, Gentleman Auction House comes to us 125 miles east of our office. Armed with an arsenal of guitars, horns, keys, and multiple percussionists, GAH brings a wall of pop arrangements. For the past two years the group has become one of the must-see acts in St. Louis, MO and the rest of the Midwest. Now, after touring and performing at Tape-OP and SxSW 07 festivals in support of their self-released EP "The Rules were Handed Down", GAH is ready to bring you their first full length album. Look for "Alphabet Graveyard" in late May 2008 as well as their upcoming tour dates including SxSW 08 showcases.

HOT SHOULDERS IN STORES TODAY!

...these dudes aren't just the flaming-guitar wielding, dead-baby joke-telling, pizza-jamming guys they appear to be." - Mary Nguyen (GO! MAGAZINE)
"Think fuzzed out bass guitar, sloppy drums, high-energy guitar antics and all the '70s rock influences you can possibly muster up in 30 seconds (AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, The Who) then remove the classy vocals and add some grating rawk-star lungs and you've got Bald Eagle." - Brian (QCLA INDEPENDENT)
"At times they come across sounding like Fugazi gone pop, which is a great thing in my opinion." - Jared Murdock (DECOYMUSIC.COM)
"The main reason for my enthusiasm is that this Columbia, Missouri quartet writes songs so infectious they seem to invade your central nervous system." - Tony Sclafani (POPMATTERS.COM)
"A throbbing rhythm section! Funkalicious rock n' roll riffs! Active, scratching-at-the-throat lead vocals! And a rough recording job to match it all! Woo! This is the stuff BALD EAGLE is made of and puts to use on Hot Shoulders, the band's latest release for Emergency Umbrella." - Corey Schmidt (PASTEPUNK.COM)
"It jams and jams until you think you can't jam anymore, then you jam some more." - Lauren Mooney (URB MAGAZINE)

FOUNDRY FEATURE ON DAYTROTTER

Sean over at DAYTROTTER does some of the best, most thoughtful writing we are blessed to focus our peepers on each week ... And as most people know, the whole Daytrotter crew are just amazing folks in general. They admirably keep with a motto of fostering artists and championing a positive vibe within the indie music community! (Which is super cool in our book.)
We were floored to get a chance for FFR to spend some time with them in Austin at SXSW in the temperamental Sound Team recording studio!
This FFR feature is what resulted from everyone's hard work and patience! (From a touch and go kind of night where everything electrical in the studio went crazy and everyone's festival sleep dep set in ... and truly tested the limits of the grand idea of the marathon recording sessions!) Truly the end result made us blush and took us all to a happy place. (It's nice when you can feel how much a person really listens to someone and truly cares about music through their writing ... and strives to uncover the hidden stories behind the songs.)

The Foundry Field Recordings Prepare for 'Battle'
April 30, 2007
Exclusive! Download the soothing shoegaze of "Battle Brigades II" from The Foundry Field Recordings.
For all their smolder, it's fitting that this Columbia, MO quartet chose the name The Foundry Field Recordings: just as a foundry uses furnaces to melt metal, these CMJ favorites bring an orange molten glow to their music. "Battle Brigades II" spills the band's apparent affinity for bands like Built to Spill and My Bloody Valentine, achieving a lush sonic soundscape with similarly warm fuzzed-out guitars and dreamy vocals. The Foundry Field Recordings will duck under the Emergency Umbrella label with their EP Fallout Stations, out June 5.

NEW WITCH'S HAT RECORD OUT IN STORES TODAY!
DOWNLOAD: "HUZZAH" - FROM THE NEW RECORD.
MASTERY OF THE STEEL hit stores nationwide today! (You should go get one, and ask if you local indie store has it ... and then come back and tell us - we love you in advance.)
"If four dudes who grew up on vintage metal like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest resided in NYC during the dance-punk explosion, they'd either throw full beers at the Rapture every time they took the stage, or they'd start a band that sounds like Witch's Hat. That's right — somehow a band has found a way to combine big guitars, a crafty rhythm section, half-shouted vocals and lyrics about octopuses, dragon slayers, vampires and aliens into a great record.
So how do they combine the fist-pumping machismo of metal with the too-cool-for-school hip of dance punk? Well, they don't. Witch's Hat casts off both those genres' prerequisites, instead creating a vibe that is both irony- and posturing-free. Sure, the fantasy lyrics can't be serious, but they seem to come more from the realm of goofy good times than from masculine assertion or tongue-in-cheek pretentiousness, and the music seems to work the same way. The funky bass lines aren't a demonstration of virtuosity, just a push onto the dance floor, while the bravado behind lyrics about robots aren't a display of testosterone, just a way to keep rocking - the only goal that Witch's Hat seems to have." — Matt Whelihan

WITCH'S HAT ANNOUNCE NATIONAL DEBUT OF MASTERY OF THE STEEL
"Mastery of the Steel is Columbia, MO cult rockers Witch's Hat's first album. Overall, the album successfully tames the snarling hellbeast that is the band's live shows onto record." - Sno-Cone Magazine
Following the recent success of The Foundry Field Recordings' album "Prompts/Miscues," and a sweet national distribution deal with the famed Alternative Distribution Alliance, (ADA), Emergency Umbrella Records is proud to announce the national debut release from the Adventure Rock band Witch's Hat on April 10th 2007.
Undeniably epic, somewhere between Iron Maiden and dance punk, Witch’s Hat brings forth its own signature brand of mountainclimbing-alien-vampire-dragon-octopus-robot-induced Adventure Rock. Not unlike Andrew WK, Tenacious D, Dragonforce, or Journey, Witch's Hat's "Mastery of the Steel" creates intimate visions of ancient and future worlds and boldly slays the line between darkly menacing and delightfully playful - with only the slightest hint of irony.
For instance, “Huzzah,” is an invigorating tale of a young medieval hero determined to save the virgin princess, where as, “Glodyany 1972,” is a haunting narrative of a vampire hunted by angry torch wielding towns-people. Also included in the album are
a few straight-ahead dance floor gems like, “Supply and Demand.” This particular song utilizes a simple truth chorus by pointing out how, “the law of supply and demand holds true: You supply the love - I demand it from you.”
Such mythos and bravado are obviously atypical song fodder, and Witch’s Hat revel in their glorious over the top whimsy raid. [This cheeky character trait becomes even more apparent at the ultratheatrical live shows - which revive the much missed and lamented role of the front-man as entertainer first and foremost.
The record’s true strength lies in its clever lyrics and detailed compositions, which are expertly arranged and demand a serious listen far beyond the fantasy-laden subject matter. The characters are built with a narrator’s expertise so that one can’t help but feel the emotion in each story. Mastery of the Steel takes an original
approach to rock music, and it gives new meaning to the concept of a timeless album.
To date, Witch's Hat have performed w/ the likes of Aqueduct, Vive Voce, The Paper Chase , Earl Greyhound, Bobby Conn, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, and more.

Ellie Come Home is nothing less than a five-person orchestra. The band began in 2005 as a chamber trio with piano, violin and cello. In early 2006, they expanded to include bass and percussion, which has given them more power than a lightning bolt from Zeus. ECH is like a classical danish with a creamy indie-rock filling. They're like Beethoven if he drank PBR and watched reruns of "Dawson's Creek."
